Rivers offer a range of wellbeing programmes and sessions, allowing the community to stay healthy, active and independent for as long as possible.

We promote the principles of staying fit and healthy and work with a variety of organisations, providing everything you need for optimal health and wellbeing.

We offer free health check and advice.

Getting Active

Walking Groups

Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier.

It’s underrated as a form of exercise, but walking is ideal for people of all ages and fitness levels who want to be more active.

Regular walking has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, asthma, stroke and some cancers.

Walking groups meet at both Droitwich Spa & Pershore Leisure Centres on a regular basis. All you need to do is find a suitable time and turn up ready to go!

Couch to 5k

The Couch to 5K programme is designed for beginners to gradually build up their running ability, so that they can eventually run 5K without stopping.

As this is a national programme, the pace of the nine-week running plan has been tried and tested by thousands of new runners across the UK.

Couch to 5K runs from Pershore Leisure Centre on both Thursday & Saturday mornings.

Bowls Club

A bowls club play at Evesham Leisure Centre on Monday’s & Tuesday’s during the winter months. If you are interested in joining, there is a mat free between 1-2pm on Tuesday’s when you can come and ‘have a go’.  All you need is a pair of flat soft soled shoes and the rest is supplied! Evesham Bowling Club is located next to the cricket club at the end of Blind Lane, off Albert Road. They have enjoyed a great deal of success in the South Worcestershire Triples League having won the title 16 times. The club currently has a mixed membership and welcomes people of all ages and abilities. The club’s sessions run;

Monday: 12:00 – 17:00 
Tuesday: 11:00 – 16:00

Rivers’ Activity Referral programme is aimed at treating people who are experiencing:

  • Cardiac Disease
  • High Cholesterol
  • Stress/Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Osteoarthritis/Osteoporosis
  • Obesity/Overweight
  • Asthma
  • Hypertension
  • Neurological Condition
  • Fibromyalgia

We work with local GP’s and Health Professionals who refer patients to a 12 week programme run by qualified exercise and health professionals based at Rivers’ Leisure centres.

  • To improve mobility, mental health and well being

What can be done afterwards?

Cardiac Rehab
Cardiac Rehab is one of the most effective treatments available to heart patients.

A quarter of all deaths in the UK can be attributed to heart disease; Cardiac Rehab can change and improve lifestyle, reduce hospital admissions, improve quality of life, and reduce blood pressure, cholesterol, anxiety and depression.

People who have suffered a heart attack or undergone heart surgery, require help in two areas:

  • They need to be restored to full activity as quickly and safely as possible
  • They need to protect themselves from a reoccurrence of heart trouble

Cardiac Rehab teaches people how to manage their condition and reduce their dependence on health services.

Patients can be referred on to a Cardiac Rehab programme by their GP.

Specialist Groups

Dementia Wellbeing

Pershore Leisure Centre works with the Alzheimer’s Society and has launched a new group to help people living with dementia in the local area.

The group, which takes place at Pershore Leisure Centre on Thursdays 11:30 – 13:00, provides an opportunity for people living with dementia and their families to meet and talk to people in similar situations.

Following a meet and greet, participants take part in a variety of gentle exercises which are designed to improve confidence, balance, coordination and help keep the mind active.

Bob Schofield, Group Leader, comments ‘Sessions provide a fun and challenging environment where people can feel comfortable and are encouraged out of their comfort zone.

‘We hope that our new group will help make day to day living a bit more manageable’.

If you or someone you know would like to attend the group, sessions costs just £2.50 and participants are welcome to turn up on the day.

Young at Heart

Young at heart is a fun and gentle exercise class which is suitable for seniors of all abilities.

Exercise is one of the most important aspects of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, this group meets weekly at Pershore Leisure Centre and the sessions last for 1 hour.
